What is DDP shipping from China?
The DDP shipping from China to the US is an Incoterms rule for Delivered Duty Paid. This term dictates that the seller must transport the merchandise to the buyer, including import and export customs clearance with the necessary duties and costs, and unload the container at the location declared by the buyer.
The term imposes maximum powers and duties on the shipper to transport and deliver the goods. The seller is also required to ensure the cargo if such a condition of the buyer is spelled out in the contract of carriage.
The buyer does not have to look for freight, deliver to the port or airport, follow and organize import/export formalities, or pay for pickup or shipping – it’s all handled by the salesman.
Responsibilities of the seller
The salesperson agrees to:
- issue an insurance policy if the buyer insists on it;
- take the goods from the factory warehouse by ordering pickup service;
- transport the shipment to his or partner’s consolidation warehouse and process it;
- pack and label the goods;
- load onto a truck and transport to the port of shipment;
- prepare all import and export documents, pay taxes and duties;
- perform loading on board the ship/airplane;
- pay for the freight to the destination country;
- meet the shipment at the port or airport of arrival;
- clear customs for export;
- arrange for the cargo to reach its destination and hand it to the buyer.
The buyer’s obligations
- to pay the price for the commodity in full;
- accept the cargo and the risks associated with its further delivery to the desired address.
Why do you need DDP delivery from China?
The main advantage of Incoterms DDP delivery is that the seller must fulfill all formalities before the products are handed over to the buyer. For the recipient, it means the absence of delays associated with goods transportation abroad, export-import formalities, and final delivery to the specified place.
In addition, DDP delivery is particularly advantageous for companies or private entrepreneurs who do not have an importer. This means that the recipient does not have an import license and does not have the right to pay for and carry out import operations, but with DDP, the import can be processed by the seller. This rule also applies when items are shipped on Amazon.
Another bonus for the buyer under DDP is the transparent price for shipping. The total cost paid to the seller for the item, transportation within China, freight, and pickup within the US is final. This helps make it much easier to calculate the costs required, especially if the buyer is an Amazon FBA seller and needs to calculate any expenses and final profit.

Cargoes accepted for transportation must weigh from 1m³ and be accompanied by the necessary documentation (certificates, permits, safety data sheets, etc.).

- It is prepared (packed, labeled) and transported to the airport or port during consolidation.
- The goods undergo export clearance in China.
- Products are loaded onto ships or airplanes and shipped to the United States.
- The container arrives in the US and gets cleared for import.

Risks of DDP shipping from China
Profitable DDP shipping from China to the USA can carry certain risks for the consignee. One is the unfairness of Chinese suppliers and evasion of certain taxes or duties during export clearance.
A low-value customs document or incorrect HTS codes assist them in doing so. Be sure to verify the HTS code of the goods before sending the items to customs or ask your broker to check the HTS code. Wrong codes cannot be used for your company’s tax return.
Also, pay attention to the price – if the supplier has quoted a DDP shipping rate much lower than other Incoterms – expect a scam.
Carefully check the value indicated on the customs declaration form and the invoice for up-to-date data (duties paid, price of goods). An incorrectly stated price will incur additional costs once the merchandise passes customs.
Global Unity Logistics will make the shipping process much easier for you, or to be more precise – will organize all-important transportation tasks for you. Just leave a request form and wait for our manager’s reply.
FAQ
With Delivered Duty Paid or DDU, the seller does not have to pay for customs clearance; the buyer does it. Meanwhile, with DDP, the shipper is responsible for all costs until the shipment is handed over to the buyer at the destination.
When the condition applies, the shipper must pay for pickup, delivery to the port or airport, freight to America, payment of import and export taxes and customs clearance, and pickup in the destination country. The buyer is only responsible for the subsequent handling of the shipment after it is passed to the seller.
This is the most comprehensive condition of Incoterms rules, which removes all risks for the cargo from the buyer during shipping, passing through customs, and transportation to the final address. The buyer of the commodities assumes responsibility for the products only when they are received at the named place in the country of destination.
